2019 has started off with some incredible creators running successful campaigns. To celebrate this, throughout the year we are going to be highlighting some of these amazing campaigns and looking back at what exactly made them so successful.

The first cab off the rank for this year was an inspiring and heart touching campaign: Frejya’s Make-A-Wish

Make-A-Wish Foundation

We make the cherished wishes of children and teenagers battling life-threatening medical conditions come true.

The Make-A-Wish foundation has been granting wishes to sick children since 1985. Since they started they have brought over 8,500 wishes to life. The foundation does not receive any government funding, so they have to rely on the public to help them with their incredible work.

The Campaign

We want to make this tote bag into a reality and help Freyja spread awareness to rid the ocean of single use plastic.

One of the wishes Make-A-Wish granted was for seven year old Freyja who is currently fighting a very rare form of cancer. Her wish took her to Queensland to see the dolphins and dugongs that she absolutely loves. Inspired by the plight of these animals, Freyja was inspired to design a tote bag to reduce single use plastic (not to mention she sat down with the hospital and talked about reducing their use of plastic!).

The crowdfunding campaign was launched to cover the cost of $3,500 for the production of 1,000 tote bags with Freyja’s amazing artwork featured on them.

At the close of the campaign on the 12th of February, an incredible $17,088 had been raised by 209 supporters!

We’re going to break down the campaign a little further to see the different aspects of the campaign that came together to make it such a success.

The Rewards

Charity based campaigns don’t always have to be donation based and this campaign was a great example of this. Whilst they still offered a tax deductible donation only option that was chosen by 33 people and had some really generous donations — there were some amazing physical rewards up from grabs that majority of supporters chose.

Tote Bag

Not surprisingly, the single tote bag was definitely the most popular reward with 122 people choosing this option. The design of the bad was excellent and really tied in with everything that the campaign was about. Plus $20 is quite reasonable for a unique tote so it’s a no brainer why this was so popular.

Limited Edition Print

Another great reward was the limited edition prints up for grabs of the artwork plus a tote bag. Bundles like this are a great idea as it gives the perception of having more value than a single item.

The Promotion

The promotion of the campaign was mainly focussed on social media posts and promotion directly via the Make-A-Wish website.

This example Facebook post below was from the ‘A Cure For Freyja’ Facebook page that had an amazing 20 shares which is a great tool to use for reaching networks that you may have not had access to otherwise.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation also ran a Facebook ad that was a huge help in getting the campaign out there by marketing to like-minded audiences. We’re pretty big fans of Facebook Ads here at Pozi HQ (and no this isn’t an a

In addition to social media, the Make-A-Wish foundation featured the campaign on their homepage and also reached out to their existing contacts which was an excellent way of finding supporters who would be interested in the campaign (I mean, who wouldn’t be though?).

The Story

Hands down the aspect of the campaign that drew such incredible support was Freyja herself and the amazing story behind the tote bags. When surveyed, 93% of our our top supporters told us that they pledge because they love supporting people and their stories. This is one of the reasons why we always emphasise the importance of having a pitch video or some great images of the creator.

Overall the campaign was put together with a lot of personality and was just super lovely. It’s a great example of how a charitable based campaign can offer great rewards as well as a donation option.
